Why Harmony, Not Extremes, Is the Real Superpower

You’ve met Positive Pete—our cheerful optimist. You’ve heard from Negative Nancy—our cautious realist. But in between these two sits someone who doesn’t speak quite as loudly, yet carries the deepest wisdom of all: Balance.

Wearing a calm smile, one red glove and one green, Balance isn’t swayed by drama or delusion. They represent the space between stimulus and response—the pause, the breath, the grounded centre. And while Pete and Nancy might steal the spotlight with their extremes, Balance is the goal we are all striving for.

At Custodians of Change, we didn’t create Balance to be neutral or passive. Balance is active, engaged, and deeply aware. Balance doesn’t mute emotions—it manages them. Balance doesn’t avoid highs and lows—it navigates them.

The Problem With Living in Extremes

Modern life rewards reactivity. Be positive! Be cautious! Be first! Be busy! But constantly swinging between extremes can leave us exhausted, fragmented, and uncertain of what we really need.

Jodie Sherwin Hill reminds us often that “emotions are just data—they’re not directives.” Pete might feel joy and want to jump in headfirst. Nancy might feel fear and want to run for cover. But Balance listens to both, filters the noise, and responds with intention—not impulse.

That’s the superpower of Balance: it doesn’t deny emotion; it decodes it. And from that decoding comes direction.

Why Balance Is the Real Goal

Balance doesn’t mean staying in the middle all the time. It means knowing:

Balance is the steady hand during a storm. The bridge between Pete’s enthusiasm and Nancy’s discernment. The reminder that we don’t have to be one thing all the time—we are allowed to evolve with each moment.

Balance brings together:

Together, this creates something deeper than any single emotion: it creates self-leadership.

When to Call on Balance (and How)

Call on Balance when:

Balance might not be the loudest voice in your inner world, but it’s the most reliable guide. Its power grows when you pause, breathe, and check in.

From Tug-of-War to Integration

At Custodians of Change, we use Pete, Nancy, and Balance not as labels, but as emotional metaphors. They help people name what they’re feeling—but more importantly, they help people lead themselves through it.

Pete brings joy. Nancy brings caution. Balance brings wisdom. All three are welcome—but Balance is the compass.

So next time you feel like you’re bouncing between “everything is amazing!” and “this is a disaster!”—remember Balance. They’re not here to silence your highs or erase your lows. They’re here to help you walk the rope with grace, even if it wobbles.
